Vintage Martin Trumpet Elkhart.Serial No. 2181xx.
Selling a one-of-a-kind Martin Custom vintage trumpet.
This is the serial number dates this horn to 1962. If you are familiar with Martin, this is right after they were purchased by RMC.
It’s a general consensus among players that the quality of the Committee went down after the acquisition. I would tend to agree, as I’ve played both versions.
The Custom does not fit this mold though. As is stated in the name, this trumpet was a custom-made, limited edition.
Only 1,000 horns were made, if I understand correctly. The valve block used on this is the same valve block for the Deluxe Committee. The valves perform just as well too.
The most interesting feature on this in my opinion is the bell material (copper) and taper. It has a pretty dramatic flattening at the flare, almost doubling back on the self.
My biggest challenge right now is deciding whether I want to keep my 1941 Committee or this horn.
I like jazz, and gravitated towards the Committee due to some of my favorite players, Miles and Chet Baker, but the main reason was the warm sound.
Here’s my conundrum now. The custom hasn’t even warmer sound and then the committee and it’s much harder to find. I’m torn, but I’m listing either way.
Does not have a mouthpiece or a case.
