VERY RARE CONN TRUMPET SERIAL NUMBER 1650XX 1918 POST WWI 3B NEW WONDER ALL BURNISHED GOLD PLATED AMAZINGLY DETAILED STENBERG ENGRAVING. VERY GOOD COMPRESSION.
SERIAL NUMBER 1650XX PUTTING IT AT 1918
1 THESE WERE MADE FOR A VERY SHORT TIME.  EVEN THE CONN LOYALIST IS NOT SURE OF THE STOP DATE ON THESE. GREAT SITE CRISTINE THANK YOU. CONN LOYALIST STATES:
3B#1½ Bore New Wonder - High & Low Pitch with Rotary Valve1916-?
THERE ARE NO EXAMPLES I FOUND IN GOLD PLATE. I FOUND ONE IN SILVER PLATE FROM 1921. THERE SEEMS TO BE CONFUSION ON THESE. EVEN CONN LOYALIST HAS THAT THEY PLAY IN HI AND LO PITCH.  THE ONE I HAVE PLAYS IN "Bb" LP AND "A" LP BY TURNING THE ROTARY VALVE FROM "Bb" LOW PITCH TO "A" LOW PITCH. SEE PIC 11.
I CHECKED THE TUNING AGANST AN OLDS MENDAZ TRUMPET.
2 THIS ENGRAVING IS AN OBVIOUS STENBERG ENGRAVING DONE BY DOC OR JULIUOS STENBERG. PERHAPS THE GREATEST ENGRAVERS OF ALL TIME. THEY WORKED AT CONN FOR THEIR LIFE TIMES.  DO A SEARCH ON THEM THEY WERE SPECIALLY GIFTED ARTISTS.
SEE THE DETAIL IN MY ENGRAVING PICS.  I HAND POLISHED THIS EVER SO DELICATELY.
I WOULD SAY THE FINISH IS ABOUT 97 %. ALL GOLD BURNISHED. THERE IS SOME WEAR ON THE USUAL TOUCH AREAS BUT NOT MUCH, NONE REALLY ON ANY PART OF THE ENGARVING WHICH GOES TO THE TOP PAST THE 1ST VALVE.  ALSO THIS ENGRAVING STRETCHES AROUND TO THE BACK OF THE BELL. SEE ALL ENGRAVING PICS. SWEET SWEET SWEET !!!
    3 VERY GOOD COMPRESSION.
I TESTED: I PUT FINGER BUTTONS DOWN HALF WAY NO SIGNIFICANT SIDE PLAY.
ALL THREE SLIDES NICE POPS. 3RD SLIDE TO TUNE LOW NOTE C# D SMOOTH.
AIR TEST: TOOK OFF SLIDE ONE AND BLEW INTO LEAD PIPE WITH MY FINGER BLOCKING THE FEMALE OPENING TO SLIDE ONE ON BODY. NO AIR. PUT ALL THREE DOWN FOR ALL AIR TEST NO AIR AT ALL.
TOOK OFF SLIDE TWO AND BLEW INTO LEAD PIPE WITH MY FINGER BLOCKING THE FEMALE OPENING TO SLIDE TWO ON BODY. NO AIR. TOOK OFF SLIDE THREE AND BLEW INTO LEAD PIPE WITH MY FINGER BLOCKING THE FEMALE OPENING TO SLIDE THREE ON BODY. TINY BIT OF AIR.  VALVES LOOK VERY GOOD FOR BEING AN ANTIQUE NOW 104 YEARS OLD. SEE VALVE PICS A LITTLE BIT OF LIGHT PITTING BUT NOT DEEP. GOOD VALVES INMO. SEE CLOSE UP OF VALVE PICS.
4 THERE ARE SOME REPAIRS ON THE BRACES THAT LOOK WELL DONE.
THE FORWARD BRACE ON THE LEAD PIPE TO THE BELL SECTION.  THE LYRE
BRACE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE 3RD SLIDE.  THERE IS A TINY TINY PATCH AT THE END OF THE LEAD PIPE WHERE IT APPEARS THERE WAS A LITTLE FRAYED AREA.  NOT A BIG SPLIT.
THE LEAD PIPE IS VERY ROUND AND A MOUTHPIECE FOR THIS VINTAGE FITS SUNGLY IN LEAD PIPE AND NO WOBBLE. IT COMES WITH AN A. K. HOTTL ARTIST MOUTHPIECE THAT IS RARE.
I ALSO TRIED IT WITH A HOLTON HEIM AND IT WAS SNUG.
5 THERE ARE A FEW DENTS TO BE NOTED.  THE ROTORY VALVE BACK CROOK HAS A DECENT DENT BUT DOES NOT PENETRATE THRU THE PLATING. ALSO ON THE ROTARY SLIDE THERE ARE A FEW OTHER MORE MINOR PINGS ON THE FRONT OF THE ROTARY VALVE.  THE TURING MECH. TO CHANGE FROM Bb TO A IS EASY TO MOVE.  IN FACT YOU MIGHT WANT TO TURN THE SCREW A BIT MORE TO TIGHTEN IT. I AM NOT A TECH SO I DID NOT MESS WITH THAT !!!
6 THE WATER PADS ARE NEW
7 THE 2ND VALVE IS PERFECTLY ALIGHED WHEN I TOOK OFF THE 2ND SLIDE AND PUSHED THE VALVE DOWN AND LOOKED IN.
8 I CONFIRMED THAT THE BORE WAS .459 AT THE OPENING ON THE 2ND VALVE OPENING ON THE TRUMPET BODY.
9 THE BELL IS 4 5/8 INCHES ACROSS.
10 AGAIN FROM CONN LOYALIST EXAMPLE PAGE
" WHAT DO TRUMPETS LOOK LIKE "
    I TOOK THESE NOTES:
NOTICE THE ROTORY VALVE ON THE TUNING SLIDE. ALSO NOTICE THE LACK OF A RIGHT HAND PINKY RING.  THIS IS NOT A MISTAKE: MANY INSTRUMETS WERE MADE THAT WAY BACK IN THE 20'S. THE 3B HAS A BORE OF # 1/2 ( 0.459 ) AND WAS PRODUCED FROM 1926 TO 1932.
THIS IS A MISTAKE AS FAR AS THE YEARS GO.  SEE ABOVE THE LOYALIST HAS THE 3B WAS
    MADE FROM 1916 TO ?
    ON THE PAGE THAT STATES
" FULL TRUMPET MODEL LIST "
THIS IS CONFIRMED WITH THE SERIAL ON MINE IS A 1918 AND BORE IS A .459. IF YOU ARE READING THIS CHRISTINE YOU COULD CORRECT YOUR DISCREPANCY ON YOUR SITE.
11 IT COMES WITH THE MOUTHPIECE MENTIONED ABOVE THE A.K. HUTTL ARTIST IN GOOD SHAPE
ALSO LABELED GRAZLITZ CZECHOSOVAKIA ( I POLISHED AND SANITIZED IT ).
A LABALC MUTE DECENT SHAPE. A PERIOD CASE MAYBE THE ONE THAT CAME WITH THE 3B NOT SURE ??? CASE NO BAD SMELL ON IT OR THE TRUMPET !
12 VALVES ARE FAST AND RESPONSIVE. I AM NOT A VERY GOOD TRUMPET PLAYER BUT THE LOW REGISTER RESPONDED FULL AND NOT WEAK OR AIRY.  I THINK THAT ALSO CONFIRMS THAT COMPRESSION IS VERY GOOD. AS FAR AS THE UPPER RANGE I DON'T HAVE THAT SKILL SET TO ANALIZE IT. I WOULD ASSUME IT IS GOOD !
I TRIED TO THE BEST OF MY ABLITY TO DESCRIBE THE ITEM. I OWN THE BUSINESS OF THE SAME NAME AS HERE. MY REPUTAION IS PARAMOUNT TO ME TO KEEP AT A+. I AM AN HONEST SELLER SEE MY FEEDBACK AND OTHER ITEMS
